The Akatsuki organization recounts a total of 10 active members, hence 10 rings for each fingers. Orochimaru being a rogue ninja who joined the Akatsuki was given a green ring with the kanji “空 kū”, which means “sky” or “void”. Orginally integrating the criminal international group because he defected Konoha, Orochimaru’s plan changed after Itachi’s arriving. He saw something interesting enough in him and was trying to get hold of his body. When he saw he couldn’t obtain what he longed for, Orchimaru left Akatsuki. The interpretation we can pull out from the kanji is the following: Orochimaru is a snake and he never will reach the sky, meaning that the goal is trying to achieve (immortality and ultimate knowledge) will never be. The meaning being “void” could be that as he left Akatsuki, his position was never replaced like that of Sasori with  Tobi, representing emptiness!
