Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry

Introduction to Naruto / Sasuke

In manga and especially in Japanese shonen, there are very often rivalries between the main character and another character. In the most famous ones we can talk about Goku and Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z, but also about Naruto and Sasuke. These rivalries often bring spice to the story and sometimes allow very stylish scenes between the protagonists. In this article we will talk about the famous rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke.

Who is Naruto Uzumaki?

naruto uzumaki

First of all we will start with the main character of the manga Naruto. Naruto Uzumaki is a bright character who is kind, generous and helps his shinobi friends.
At the beginning of the manga Naruto is harassed by the whole village of Konoha because he carries in him the nine-tailed demon Kyubi or Kurama. The nine-tailed demon is a demon that manipulated by an uchiha, attacked the village of Konoha during the time of Minato.
Because of this, Naruto’s father, Minato Namikaze, had to sacrifice himself to save the village from the demon. To save Minato village, the Hokage of Konoha village had to intern the demon in the body of his son Naruto.
So Naruto carries in a way the evil in him, that’s why Naruto at the beginning of the manga is alone. Everyone thinks that he is evil because of what he carries inside him.
As the story goes on, Naruto will make more and more friends. Indeed, his friends notice Naruto’s goodness and his kindness.
Naruto has the nine-tailed demon in him and he can use his chakra which makes that

Naruto’s favorite techniques

First of all it is necessary to know that Naruto is one of the beings with the most chakra in the manga.
Naruto thanks to Kurama can transform into a demon with many tails. At the end of the manga he will master perfectly this technique and will be able to deploy all the energy of kurama as he wants.
Naruto Uzumaki uses very often the Rasengan which is the creation of a chakra ball thanks to the element of wind. Note that this technique comes from a technique of Minato, his father.
Naruto also uses very often the multicloning which he masters perfectly, this technique consists in cloning his body in order to be able to attack from “several people”.

Who is Sasuke Uchiha?

Sasuke Uchiha is the opposite character to Naruto, at least that’s what we think at the beginning of the manga.
Sasuke is a shinobi with brown hair who is part of the famous Uchiha clan. Sasuke lives in the same village as Naruto, the village of Konoha.
At the beginning of the manga we can see the fundamental difference between Naruto and Sasuke. Sasuke is the cool ninja, the gifted one that everybody wants, he pleases the girls unlike Naruto Uzumaki. When he grows up, Sasuke will be carried away by his thirst for revenge. Indeed, his older brother Itachi Uchiha killed all his family and was exiled from the village. Because of this event, Sasuke will sink in the darkness and will even leave the village of Konoha abandoning his friends and Naruto.

Sasuke’s favorite techniques

Sasuke being an uchiha is a shinobi who has a lot of chakras and who masters very well the ninjutsu.
Sasuke uses very frequently the Chidori which is a technique which allows to transform the chakras of the hand in deadly lightning.
Sasuke has the famous sharingan which allows him to read his opponent’s movements even before they are launched. It is important to know that the Sharingan can also use Genjutsu techniques which allow to lock their opponents in a deadly illusion. At the end of the manga Sasuke will manage to steal a Rinnegan which is the most powerful eye in Naruto’s universe. With this eye, he can use techniques like Chibaku Tensei. Sasuke can also use the Susanoo which is also a mark of the uchiha clan.

The relationship between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha

As we said above, at the beginning and at first sight everything opposes Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto is rejected by everyone, he is harassed and has no friends. Sasuke is a very powerful shinobi and is respected by everyone.
What is interesting in this relationship is that the roles are going to change little by little. Naruto will end up being the most appreciated shinobi of Konoha village and will even become its Hokage. As for Sasuke, he will be consumed by his thirst for revenge against his brother, Itachi. Indeed after the massacre of the Uchiha clan by Itachi, Sasuke now orphan and without anyone will only want to kill his own brother. And it is here that we can clearly see the resemblance between the two protagonists: they both feel abandoned by all.
When Sasuke will leave Konoha village to accomplish his quest, Naruto will do everything to find his friend and reason with her. Unfortunately Sasuke won’t listen to anything and will stay with Orochimaru the legendary ninja during a good part of the manga.

The final battle : The conclusion of the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke

In the end the climax of their relationship and of the manga in general is during the final battle during the great ninja war against Madara Uchiha. The Kages are down and there is no one left to face and defeat Madara. So Team 7 must come together one last time and team up to gather their strength. It is then that we understand that Naruto and Sasuke are really complementary characters. Naruto symbolizes the light and Sasuke represents the shadow.
Team 7 finally manages to defeat Madara but unfortunately after this victory, Sasuke turns against his friends and faces Naruto one last time.
At the end of their strength and in a last push, both ninjas use their remaining chakra to charge one last attack. Naruto uses Rasengan combined with the power of Kyubi and Sasuke uses Chidori combined with the power of his Susanoo. The two protagonists, the two rivals, the friends charge and in a last explosion both lose their arms. This act is a symbol that shows that Naruto and Sasuke will be linked by the same scar during all their life.
